4WD experience on Fraser Island

Fraser Island  is one of the world's largest sand islands and one you have just got to put on your 'to do' list. If you haven't already experienced this World Heritage area, you are missing out. We had a great 4 day break exploring the island's long beaches, coloured sand cliffs and the freshwater lakes. Vehicle access is by 4WD only, via a barge from the mainland. We based ourselves at Central Station and set off from there each day, on our 4x4 adventures. Our first stop of course - Lake McKenzie with its pure white sand and crystal clear fresh water. We explored the awesome rainforest inland, getting bogged along the way which added to our 4x4 adventures. We encountered the famous Fraser Island dingos, goannas and a variety of birdlife that make the island their home. Had a close encounter with an aeroplane landing on seventy five mile beach, caught a few fish and explored the Maheno shipwreck which was blown ashore in a cyclone in 1935. Marveled at the Cathedrals, acient cliffs of coloured sands and the views from Indian Heads. A great 4x4 adventure - going to do it again and discover what we missed!
